My adventure in Mykonos started as soon as I disembarked from the Norwegian Viva. This is one of the most famous and luxurious islands in Greece: Mykonos. Known for its beach clubs, vibrant parties, and upscale lifestyle, this island has something for everyone. Let me show you around!

By the way, did you know that the name Mykonos means “a pile of stones” or “rocky place”? According to another legend, it was named after Mykono, a hero and the son of King Anios of Delos, who was the son of Apollo himself.

Exploring Mykonos Town

My first stop was at the heart of Mykonos Town. Much like Santorini, the streets were filled with charming restaurants and souvenir shops. However, I quickly noticed a key difference—there are plenty of designer boutiques and luxury stores, featuring both Greek and international brands. Mykonos is undoubtedly geared toward luxury tourism.

After strolling through the town and soaking up its lively atmosphere, it was time to decide what to do next. Since I was on a tight schedule, I chose to experience one of the island’s most iconic attractions: a beach club. Mykonos offers several great options, but I ultimately decided to visit Jackie O’ Beach Club. Located about 20 minutes by taxi from the center, I used Uber to get there.

Jackie O’ Beach Club Experience

As soon as I arrived, I understood why these beach clubs are so popular. The vibe was laid-back, the music was excellent, and the turquoise waters were stunning. It’s the kind of place where you can instantly relax and forget about everything else.

The cost for a beach chair was €60, which included an umbrella, towels, and a bottle of water. There’s also full food and beverage service, with waiters making sure you have everything you need. However, if you prefer not to spend that much, there’s public access to the beach, so don’t let the price stop you from enjoying those crystal-clear waters!

After a relaxing afternoon, it was time to head back. One thing that stood out was the stark contrast between the island’s rocky, almost desert-like interior and the lively, gorgeous coastline It’s truly a tale of two worlds.

Don’t Miss the Windmills

Before leaving, I couldn’t miss the famous windmills of Mykonos. Built by the Venetians in the 16th century, these windmills were originally used to grind wheat and other grains, taking advantage of the island’s strong winds. They ceased production in the mid-20th century with the arrival of electricity and have since become a popular tourist attraction.

Final Thoughts: Is Mykonos Worth It?

Mykonos is an impressive island with a unique blend of luxury, history, natural beauty, and guaranteed fun. However, it’s important to note that enjoying all it has to offer can get quite expensive.

If budget isn’t a concern, Mykonos is the perfect place for a lavish getaway. But if you’re looking for something more affordable, don’t worry—Greece has plenty of other beautiful islands to explore. Consider Naxos, Paros, or Milos for stunning beaches and charming landscapes at a fraction of the cost. These hidden gems offer a more authentic Greek experience without breaking the bank.
